Ally and Chase are dear friends of ours, and it was truly an honor to capture their engagement session at the beautiful Wind Point Lighthouse in Racine, Wisconsin.
They are an adventurous and playful couple, bringing a natural energy to every moment. Ally felt completely at ease in front of the camera, while Chase came into the session a bit more unsure of what to expect. This is something we often see — many grooms simply need a bit of direction to feel comfortable, and we always come prepared to guide in a way that feels natural and relaxed.
Our approach to directing is simple. Rather than asking couples to stand still and pose, we encourage them to treat the session more like a date night — something to be experienced together. It becomes less about being in front of a camera, and more about moving, laughing, and simply enjoying the moment.
For Ally and Chase, it was important to choose outfits that felt both elevated and comfortable — something they could move freely in as we guided them through each scene. That freedom allowed for moments of genuine connection to unfold naturally.
Their willingness to trust the process made all the difference. Ally and Chase were open to trying anything, which allowed us to create more freely and capture a wider range of moments. They ran through the shoreline, splashed in the waves, shared quiet moments on the sandy rocks, and laughed together on the lighthouse steps. They even played a game of rock-paper-scissors on a picnic blanket set across the beautifully kept lighthouse grounds — a simple moment that reflected their playful connection so well.
They chose a location that held personal meaning to them — coincidentally, the same lighthouse where we were engaged just over six years ago. That shared connection made the session feel even more special.
Wind Point Lighthouse in Racine is known as one of the oldest and tallest active lighthouses on Lake Michigan, standing 108 feet tall since 1880. With its charming presence, well-kept grounds, and access to the shoreline, it offers a setting that feels both timeless and inviting — perfect for an engagement session along the lake.
As the evening unfolded, the sun reflected off the waves while seagulls drifted overhead, creating a peaceful and steady rhythm to the night. The session ended with a beautiful sunset, followed by a rainbow stretching toward the Chicago lakefront — a moment that felt like a fitting close to such a meaningful experience.
Capturing Ally and Chase’s engagement session along the Racine shoreline was truly a joy. We are so grateful to have been a part of this season of their story and are looking forward to celebrating with them again on their wedding day this August.
